Join us for our next Tech Talk on “AI – Debunking Myths”. This in-person event is in sponsored by EY and will take place on Thursday 20th April from 7.30am to 9am in EY offices at City Quarter, Lapp’s Quay, Cork City (refreshments & networking from 7.30 am, panel discussion from 8am – 9 am).

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is bringing huge changes and multiple benefits to a range of sectors all over the globe. From Alexa to self-driving cars, AI is progressing rapidly. AI is now being used in multiple fields from your mobile phone to diagnosing diseases and providing high-performance, efficient, and accurate systems of work.

Many businesses take up artificial intelligence (AI) technology to try to save time and money by automating and optimising routine processes and tasks, increase productivity and operational efficiencies, make faster business decisions, grow revenue, and improve customer experience. And these are just a few of the benefits. AI is currently being used in multiple fields, examples include: chatbots, healthcare, recruitment, retail, logistics, agriculture, and autonomous flying. During this tech talk we will be hosting a discussion with experts who will share their experiences of AI and debunk the myths associated with AI.

Overview of speakers

Alan Holland

Previously a lecturer in Artificial Intelligence in University College Cork’s Computer Science Department, Alan specialized in Optimization, Game Theory and Algorithmic Mechanism Design. Alan founded Keelvar in September 2012 when he left the University to commercialize advances in AI for procurement teams. Alan’s specialist knowledge in Optimization, Game Theory and Mechanism Design gives Keelvar an edge in terms of innovating with offerings that exceed competitors’ technical capabilities. This enables Keelvar to define an entirely new category of the solution, putting Keelvar in an ideal position to lead this new category that Keelvar has called Autonomous Sourcing.

Greg Tarr

Greg is the 20-year-old CEO of Inferex, which builds tools and services that help companies innovate with AI. Before winning the BT Young Scientist in 2021, Greg was a computer vision researcher and built deployment infrastructure for AI companies.

Ian Roche

Ian is a lead in an AI Solutions team within Dell. Ian’s particular focus in around designing and building Computer Vision solutions that are applied to various verticals (e.g Transportation, Airports, Sports, Retail). Ian has a Degree in Computer Science from UCC and a Masters in AI from MTU. In his spare time Ian runs marathons.

Susie Harding

Susie is a Senior Manager in the Data Analytics Advisory Services practice at EY. Susie has over 10 years’ experience leading and growing high-performing data teams, including defining, implementing, and executing data based strategies which deliver meaningful business value revenue growth. Susie is passionate about building great teams and relationships, and has been nominated for a number of awards including the 2022 Analytics Leader of the Year at the Analytics Institute Analytics & AI Awards and the 2022 Women in AI Person of the Year at the AI Awards.
