Event MC: Jonathan McCrea
Jonathan McCrea is a broadcaster, producer and founder of Whipsmart Media, a communications company based in Dublin. An expert in future trends with a background in technology,
he spends his days helping specialist groups and individuals tell stories that help grow their businesses.
As a producer and presenter, his work has reached millions across various outlets such as Newstalk, RTE, Virgin Media and the Discovery Channel and earned dozens of national and international awards including two gold medals at New York Festivals. Jonathan also acts as a creative consultant and producer in live and online events and has worked with Science Week, Electric Picnic, the Festival of Curiosity and other cultural programmes to deliver highly creative event formats. Jonathan was awarded a fellowship by the Atlantic Technological University for his work in science communication and sits on the advisory board of the Science Media Centre. He lives in Dublin with his wife Dara, two boys and an adorable but needy dog.
Nikki Bradley is an adaptive adventurer and one of Ireland’s leading female motivational speakers. She also worked in sport (Triathlon Ireland) and is an ambassador for multiple national brands such as Sculpted by Aimee and the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon.
Diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma at aged 16 and surviving the rare and often deadly form of bone cancer, offered Nikki a unique opportunity to restart her life at a young age. She is the founder of ‘Fighting Fit For Ewing’s’, which aims to increase awareness about the disease as well as participating in physical challenges. The Donegal native attempted a Guinness World Record in Holland, tackled a route of the Solheimajokull glacier in Iceland, climbed The Sturrall in Donegal which is one of Ireland’s most outstanding sea cliffs and abseiled off it, completed the Fan Dance – a gruelling 24km trek through the snowy Brecon Beacons in Wales – all while relying on crutches. In July 2018, Nikki became the first crutch user to climb four Irish mountains on crutches in less than 32 hours and in 2019 she completed a summer half marathon and a monumental visit to Tanzania, Africa where she volunteered with suicide prevention organisation ALPS. Nikki had her right leg amputated on the 7th of February 2022 making her one of the first people in Ireland to opt for Rotationplasty surgery. Her first major event as an amputee took place on May 15th 2023, where Nikki summited the Sturrall Ridge in Donegal. Nikki has worked with all of the national media outlets in Ireland and many in the UK. She has appeared on the Late Late Show, was invited to deliver a TedX talk (access here) and worked with RTE’s Operation Transformation as the Challenge Presenter.
Robert McArdle is a Director in Trend Micro’s Forward Looking Threat Research (FTR) and Adversary Intelligence and Monitoring (AIM) teams, where he is involved in analysing and monitoring the latest Cybercrime threats – specializing in researching the future threat landscape, Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) and coordinating investigations with international law enforcement.
Robert is a regular presenter for the press and at security conferences. He also has lectured in Malware Analysis and Cybercrime Investigations on MSc modules at Munster Technological University (MTU) and University College Dublin (UCD). He worries that his hobby and job are one and the same, and constantly wonders if “normal” people have that problem.
Joanne Sheahan is a Senior Executive on the Sustainability, Renewable Energy and Agtech team in Enterprise Ireland, providing a range of capability-development, planning and investment supports to help business achieve their sustainability ambitions.
Joanne has 15 years’ experience working in sustainability across the public and private sectors, helping companies to measure and improve their sustainability performance. Prior to joining Enterprise Ireland Joanne worked for the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), leading a range of energy research and innovation activities in support of Ireland’s low carbon energy transition. She is a graduate in law from NUI Galway and holds a masters in ecological economics from the University of Edinburgh.
Denis worked in a high growth software development company for 6 years before joining AIB at the end of 2022 so he is well positioned to support Technology SMEs navigate the growth lifecycle. One of the most common challenges high growth companies face is deciding on the correct funding mix – when is it debt , when is it equity – when is it both etc.,. Denis spends a lot of his time helping companies navigate this complex landscape.
Joel Olympio is an industrial designer and entrepreneur. He is the co-founder of Chapter, a startup with the mission of enhancing focus with innovative technology. His work has been recognised and awarded globally by Dyson, Prototypes for Humanity and the Irish Design Institute.
Joel graduated from the University of Limerick in 2023 where he studied Product Design & Technology. He then worked at Dolmen Design & Innovation, an award-winning design consultancy based in Dublin. Joel’s interests lie at the intersection of design, technology and inclusion and this inspires his work at Chapter.
Andy has over 20 years experience in Technology, Media and Telecommunications, with a variety of Product and Project management roles in Cable and Wireless, Level (3), BT, and Virgin Media prior to joining Digital Realty in 2017.
Tech Industry Alliance Skillnet is a government-funded learning network that provides subsidised training solutions for the Tech sector in the South-West region. It acts as a business partner to industry by driving successful upskilling through programme design, acquisition and funding; with training covering IT domains, business functions, and management development.
